What Is ‘Outlast: The Jungle’? Everything We Know About the New Netflix Show

Netflix’s survival competition series “Outlast” is back — and it traded the frozen Alaskan wilderness for something potentially more brutal. “Outlast: The Jungle” drops 16 strangers into the Panamanian jungle on June 10, and based on everything revealed so far, this season looks like the most intense one yet.

Here is everything you need to know before it premieres.

What Is Outlast: The Jungle?

“Outlast: The Jungle” drops 16 strangers into the unforgiving Panamanian jungle for a brutal fight to survive, strategize, and outlast each other for a $1 million prize. The core rule of the game remains the same as previous seasons — you have to be part of a team to win, so no one can fly solo. Survival alone is not enough. Holding your team together is what gets you to the end.

Unlike the two previous seasons, which were both set in the freezing wilderness of Alaska, “Outlast: The Jungle” trades snow and isolation for heat, humidity, and what looks like a much more volatile social game. The trailer teases shifting alliances, explosive confrontations, and contestants pushed to their limits by both the environment and each other.

Showrunner Mike Odair described the shift as a major format escalation. “This season felt like throwing gasoline on the format. We traded the frozen isolation of Alaska for the heat and volatility of Panama, and everything changed: the survival, the strategy, and the social dynamics. Having now seen two seasons of the game, these contestants arrived ready to test alliances and push the social experiment further than ever before, creating a season that feels more primal, unpredictable, and intense from the very start.”

When Does Outlast: The Jungle Premiere?

Season three arrives on June 10, 2026 with the release of the first six episodes. The two remaining episodes will stream on June 17.

Who Makes the Show?

Outlast: The Jungle is executive produced by Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Emma Ho for Aggregate Films, Ryan O’Dowd, and Krystal Whitney for BBC Studios.

Why This Season Looks Different

The Alaska seasons rewarded cold-weather survival skills and physical endurance in relative isolation. Panama changes the equation entirely. The jungle brings heat, humidity, dense terrain, and a social environment that the trailer suggests is far more combustible. Contestants this season also came in having already watched two seasons of the game play out — which means the alliance-building and strategic maneuvering is likely to start faster and hit harder than anything the previous casts attempted.

Wes, a former Pittsburgh Steeler, and Nikki, a boxer and actress, bring athletic backgrounds that could factor heavily in physical challenges. Brett, a boar hunter and commercial fisherman from Louisiana, and Leiya, a tattoo artist and fisherwoman from Tennessee, bring the kind of practical outdoor skills that win survival competitions. Ben, a former Department of Defense civilian, and Pharaoh, a wildlife educator, add wildcards the other contestants will have to figure out quickly.

“Outlast: The Jungle” premieres June 10 on Netflix.
