Bravo teased tonight’s all-new “Southern Hospitality” preview that has the internet choosing sides before the episode even airs. Maddi Reese is prepping for her DJ set at Republic. Joe Bradley walks in 23 minutes late. And Maddi already knows exactly where he was the night before — because she had his location.
“I’m a little pissed because Joe told me he was working last night and, of course, I have his location, and it’s at another bar,” Maddi tells Michols Peña in the sneak peek.
In her confessional, Maddi clarifies she is not an “uber tracker.” She only checks Joe’s location “when he’s not responding to make sure he’s not dead in a ditch.” A reasonable standard. One Joe apparently did not meet.
The Confrontation
Michols confirms to Maddi that Joe did not come in to work the night before. “He told me he was working,” she says. Michols replies plainly: “Yeah, because he’s out drinking.”
What makes it worse for Maddi is the optics with their boss. “Leva has a perception that I have anything to do with him missing work,” she says, frustrated that she is catching the blame for Joe’s choices while she is the one on tour building her DJ career.
When Joe finally arrives and asks if Maddi wants help moving her DJ equipment outside, she does not soften. “No. It’s pouring rain, if you didn’t notice,” she tells him flatly. Joe, oblivious, eventually asks if she is okay. She says no. His confessional captures the rest: “She’s obviously pissed off at me. I have no idea why. I don’t know if I’d rather have Maddi yell at me and embarrass me in front of everyone, or be silent like this. This is the most annoying part of our relationship — when she gets mad, and I don’t know why.”
Joe does not know why. Maddi has his location data. These two facts existing simultaneously are doing a lot of work.
The Bigger Picture
This is not an isolated incident. The Season 4 trailer already showed Maddi yelling, “I’m constantly checking your location. You’re not at Republic. You’re out at the bar. You get drunk every single weekend.” Joe’s response: “This is all in your brain. This is all in your head.”
Leva has already told Joe directly that he lost his shot at a business opportunity because he kept skipping work to travel with Maddi on tour. “You have been replaced,” she told him, referencing new VIP Host Justin Assad. “The business doesn’t wait for you.”
The good news, at least off-camera, is that Maddi and Joe appeared on WWHL and confirmed they are still together and have adopted a dog. But tonight’s episode suggests they had some serious ground to cover to get there.
Bravo’s caption for the tease said it best: “We’ll share the full story after this shift.”
