’90 Day Fiancé’ Star Jenny Slatten Reveals ALS Diagnosis

Jenny Slatten, one of the most beloved figures in the “90 Day Fiancé” franchise, has shared devastating health news. The 68-year-old star and her husband Sumit Singh confirmed on May 19 that Jenny has been diagnosed with ALS — amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — a progressive neurological disorder with no known cure.

“With a heavy heart we wanted to share a news with all of you guys,” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram statement. “There was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS. At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out.”

How the Diagnosis Came About

The first signs appeared in late 2024 when Jenny suddenly started choking while drinking water and struggled to swallow pills. Things grew more concerning when her speech noticeably slowed — to the point that fans watching a holiday interview began speculating something serious was wrong, with rumors circulating that she had suffered a stroke.

Her daughter Christina stepped in to address the stroke rumors publicly, putting them to rest while the family continued to navigate Jenny’s diagnosis privately.

After multiple doctor visits, specialists confirmed the ALS diagnosis in December 2025. The news hit especially hard because Jenny’s father also died from ALS — and she and Sumit broke down crying when they received the confirmation. Doctors have said the progression of Jenny’s ALS has been slow.

Jenny & Sumit’s Response

Despite the weight of the diagnosis, Jenny has been clear about how she wants to move forward. “I don’t want to be treated any different,” she told People. “Let’s just live our life as we have been while we can.”

The couple said they are open to any kind of help — treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat the disease or slow its progression. Jenny said she hopes speaking publicly might lead someone to come forward with information or treatment options that could help.

Hours after sharing the diagnosis, Jenny posted an update on Instagram Stories — a selfie with Sumit, writing that she was still able to walk around and that Sumit was still allowed to smile. The lightness in that caption, given the circumstances, says a great deal about who Jenny is.

Sumit has said the ordeal has only made their bond stronger.

Who Jenny & Sumit Are

Warner Bros. Discovery/TLC

Jenny and Sumit first appeared on “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” in 2019 and became immediate fan favorites — their relationship defined by a 30-year age gap, years of long-distance, resistance from Sumit’s family, and a love story that outlasted every obstacle put in front of it. They married in 2021 after nearly a decade together and have continued appearing across multiple franchise spinoffs.

Jenny and Sumit’s announcement also comes just days before the couple is set to return to television. They are among the six couples heading to Thornbury Castle for “90 Day: The Last Resort” Season 3, which premieres June 1 on TLC and Max. The timing has drawn an enormous outpouring of support from the franchise community and fans worldwide.

The comment section on their announcement post reflected that immediately. Their daughter wrote that she had never been so sad but would never let the sadness take over, that hope was everything, and that she would be with them every step of the way. Kenneth from 90 Day sent a huge hug. The 90dayfianceupdate account sent love.

Jenny Slatten has spent years letting cameras into some of the most vulnerable moments of her life. This is the most vulnerable of all — and she is handling it the same way she has handled everything else. By reaching out. By asking for help. By refusing to disappear.

90 Day: The Last Resort Season 3 premieres June 1 at 8/7c on TLC and streams on Max. If you or someone you know would like to learn more about ALS resources and clinical trials, the ALS Association can be reached at als.org.
