Jonathan Scott has been putting his contractor credentials to use where it matters most. Zooey Deschanel’s family home of 42 years burned in the LA wildfires, and her parents lost every memory they had. Every single thing. “They literally didn’t even have clothes when they left the house,” Jonathan told Extra TV. “So, it was really hard for us, and emotional.”

The rebuild is now underway. In an interview with People, Jonathan recently confirmed they have poured the slab at the property. The new home will be built to be both fireproof and earthquake-proof so that Zooey’s parents will “never have to worry about being displaced again.”

Zooey described the home — a 1920s Spanish revival house she grew up in alongside her sister, “Bones” actress Emily Deschanel — as a “sanctuary.” She told People: “One of my friends growing up called it ‘The Church’ because the 14-foot ceilings with stained glass windows in the living room cast colorful shadows at the end of the day.”

Zooey said Jonathan “came to the rescue” and that they are rebuilding using non-combustible materials. “It’s really cool to learn about all that,” she said. Jonathan also filmed a YouTube video at the site walking other wildfire victims through the steps of rebuilding from scratch, a reminder that the Deschanel family was far from alone in the loss.

The Personal Connection on TV

The experience shaped “Property Brothers: Under Pressure” in ways that go beyond the usual renovation format. The show’s premiere episode featured a couple who lost their home in the January 2025 Eaton wildfire, and Jonathan took them to see Zooey’s family home rebuild in progress. “I think knowing that we’re going through the same thing at the same time was good for them,” he said.

The Wedding — Still No Date

With the rebuild ongoing and a new show filming, the wedding remains somewhere on the horizon — just not on the calendar. In a March 2026 interview with People, Jonathan explained the one thing they have figured out: the guest list. “I’ve sort of entered this phase of my life now where I’m realizing there are a lot of people around you who put way more effort into the relationship than they do,” he said. “I think we have decided we want to be around the people who actually love our friendship and love spending time with us.”

Beyond that, the details remain open. “At some point, we’ll figure out a date and a location and all that stuff, but we haven’t done it yet,” he said.

Drew summed up the situation on the same press run, pointing out that Jonathan has not exactly had a free calendar. “You don’t have time for a wedding,” he said. “You’re throwing Halloween parties. You’re on Habitat for Humanity builds.” Jonathan agreed — and added that they will figure it out.

They have been engaged since August 2023.

“Property Brothers: Under Pressure” airs Sundays at 9/8c on HGTV and streams on Max and Discovery+.
