Chris Dahlan & Kayla Richart Eliminated on ‘Perfect Match’ — What Went Wrong

Chris Dahlan walked into “Perfect Match” Season 4 convinced he was the kind of guy who stands out without trying. He wasn’t wrong. The problem is that by Episode 3, he stood out for exactly the wrong reasons — and it cost both him and Kayla Richart their spots in the villa.

Their exit wasn’t a blindside. It was a slow build that the entire house watched happen in real time, and when the vote finally came, nobody was surprised.

Chris Came In Hot on Mackenzie

Night one, Chris matched with Mackenzie Bellows. He was into her — told the boys he was vibing with her, that they were on the same page about not moving too fast, and that he couldn’t be happier.

They were the first couple to officially match, sealing it with a kiss in the pool. He even tried to gift her a Louis Vuitton wallet that same night. At that point, Mackenzie was his girl.

Then Kayla Richart walked through the door.

Kayla Changed Everything

Demari Davis and Marissa George won the first compatibility challenge and came back from the boardroom with three new singles in tow — Kayla, Dave Hand, and Jimmy Sotos. The second Kayla stepped into the villa, Chris was speechless. His confessional said it all. He was gone before she even introduced herself.

Kayla wasted no time either. She told Chris he was the first one to catch her eye, and the two fell into easy conversation almost immediately. Meanwhile, Mackenzie was watching from across the villa, fully aware of what was happening. She admitted she felt uncomfortable — Kayla was obviously Chris’s type, and she was not naive enough to pretend otherwise.

The irony is that Demari and Marissa had brought Kayla in hoping she might pull Yamen’s attention. That plan didn’t survive contact with Chris Dahlan.

The Date Locked It In

When the new singles got to choose their own dates — part of Season 4’s boardroom twist — Kayla chose Chris.

Mackenzie went out with Dave instead, and that date went sideways fast. It was awkward. Dave spent most of it wondering whether Mackenzie could ever fully open up, and Mackenzie spent most of it hoping Chris wasn’t having too good a time with Kayla.

He was.

Chris and Kayla painted a surfboard using their bodies, kissed on the beach, and came back to the villa holding hands. Chris was floating. He said it felt like the two of them were on an island and nothing else mattered.

By Episode 3, Chris had pulled Kayla aside before he had even spoken to Mackenzie about what was happening. He told Kayla he wanted to match with her. She asked directly — he said, “Hell yeah, I want to match tonight.” They kissed.

Chris tells the boys it’s the happiest he’s ever been.

Jimmy Presnell, watching the whole thing unfold, summed it up in his confessional: “Didn’t you take Mackenzie home first and tell us that two nights ago? Brother, chill out.”

The House Noticed

Mackenzie, to her credit, landed on her feet. Dave matched with her, and she leaned into it. But the rest of the house had been watching Chris operate from day one, and the pattern was hard to ignore. He came in devoted to one woman, dropped her the moment someone shinier walked in, and then declared his new match the real thing — all within the span of a few days.

When Nick Lachey arrived in Episode 3 and asked the group how everyone was feeling about their matches, Jimmy Presnell gave an answer that almost cost him. He said he was enjoying his connection, but his goal is to win. When Nick pressed about what a win is to him, he said staying in the house and getting to know everyone.

Kayla pushed back immediately, pointing out that the win should be the person you are with, not the rest of the group.

The timing, though, was brutal. A house vote was coming. Nick asked the group to vote for the man and woman that seemed to be at the villa for the wrong reasons. Jimmy had just handed the group reason to question his intentions right before the ballots went in.

The vote fell on Kayla for the women and produced a tie between Chris and Jimmy Presnell for the men. Demari and Marissa, fresh off their second challenge win, were handed the tiebreaker. Marissa’s reasoning was direct: Chris had dropped Mackenzie the moment Kayla arrived, while Jimmy was at least still working through the process, even if imperfectly. She voted Chris. He and Kayla were both out.

They Left Convinced They Were the Strongest Couple There

Chris’s exit confessional called it deep despair. He believed their connection was real, that they had been targeted because the house saw them as a threat, and that they were not done. Kayla said she came in wearing her heart on her sleeve, found someone who could genuinely be her perfect match, and had no regrets about how she played it.

Whether the house saw a genuine couple or a man who moved too fast and too visibly, the result was the same. Chris and Kayla were gone before they ever got the chance to prove it either way.

Whether they will get to come back and try again is TBD.

“Perfect Match” Season 4 Episodes 1-5 are streaming now on Netflix.
