The Bravo internet has a new name for the “Summer House” drama, and it is not letting go.
Within hours of Amanda Batula and West Wilson confirming their romance on March 31, fans started drawing the obvious parallel: this feels like “Vanderpump Rules’” Scandoval. The nickname “Amandoval” spread fast, along with a very loud debate about whether this is actually worse.
A Refresher on Scandoval
In 2023, “Vanderpump Rules” stars Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix split after nine years together when Ariana learned Sandoval had been having an affair with their co-star and close friend Raquel Leviss for seven months, according to Daily Gazette. The fallout was seismic. According to Variety, the scandal was so explosive that it effectively ended the original cast’s tenure on the show, and Bravo rebooted with an entirely new cast.
Post-Scandoval, Madix’s career surged. According to Marie Claire, she played Roxie Hart in “Chicago” on Broadway, placed third on “Dancing With the Stars,” and now hosts “Love Island USA” on Peacock.
Where the Comparison Holds Up
The skeleton of both stories look familiar. In both cases, a man became romantically involved with a woman who was a close friend of someone he had significant history with. Both situations involved the breakdown of trust inside a tight-knit cast living in close quarters.
Former “Vanderpump Rules” star Katie Maloney, who lived through Scandoval firsthand, weighed in immediately. “Omg so this is what it’s like being on the other side of Scandoval!!!??” she wrote, according to TheWrap.
According to Us Weekly, “Southern Charm” star Venita Aspen, a close friend of Ciara’s, went further. “Imagine making a statement hard launching a ‘connection’ and not even considering apologizing to the person you hurt,” she wrote on Instagram. “But I guess that tracks.”
Even Tom Schwartz, who was Sandoval’s closest friend during Scandoval and felt the collateral damage, got pulled in. “These are my friends and there’s a human cost there,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t want to say I’m savoring it… but I’ve been doing sleuthing.”
Where Fans Think This Is Actually Worse
Here is where it gets complicated. Scandoval was the betrayal of a romantic relationship. Tom cheated on Ariana. Nobody cheated here. Amanda and Kyle were separated, and West and Ciara were long broken up. Two unattached adults developed feelings. That is, technically, allowed.
But fans argue that is precisely what makes Amandoval more insidious. What happened to Ciara is not a romantic betrayal, but a friendship betrayal. And a friendship is supposed to exist in a totally separate category from romantic entanglement, operating under different rules.
According to Cheat Sheet, some fans have also pointed out that West had specifically pursued Ciara, knowing she wanted to take things slowly, visited his parents’ home with her, and then told her he was not ready for a monogamous relationship. Surely, the fact that he later moved forward with her best friend struck a nerve.
The Ariana Comparison Amanda Already Rejected
Here is the most ironic twist in the whole thing. In a March 2026 interview with Marie Claire —published before any of this exploded —Amanda was asked directly about comparisons to Ariana Madix. “Everyone wants this big Ariana Madix moment for women who go through a breakup, but her situation was so different and so awful,” Amanda said. “There’s really no comparison.”
She was right. She just didn’t know yet that she would end up on the other side of the comparison.
What Comes Next
There is precedent for Bravo picking cameras back up when major off-season events occur, most famously with Scandoval, and twice before on “Summer House” itself. Whether production returns to capture this fallout remains to be seen.
Andy Cohen has confirmed he has no shortage of questions heading into the “Summer House” Season 10 reunion, which he is scheduled to host later this month, according to Rolling Out. Ciara has still not made a direct public statement. The reunion has not filmed yet.
Whatever you call it — Amandoval, West Side Story, ScAmandal — this one is not going anywhere.
“Summer House” Season 10 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo and streams on Peacock.
