Danny Spongberg is one of three “Temptation Island” Season 9 cast members heading into the “Perfect Match” Season 4 villa — and the one with the most complicated story coming out of that season.
Here’s everything you need to know about him.
Who Is Danny Spongberg?
Danny Spongberg is a Nebraska native from Omaha who is currently based between the Northeast and Iowa. His Instagram bio lists “NE / IA” as his location, which tracks with a lifestyle that involves frequent travel between the Midwest and his TV projects.
He is a masseuse and barber by trade, two professions that, as Netflix’s own Tudum bio noted, mean there’s nothing he loves more than making people feel good. He has 121,000 Instagram followers, 131,000 on TikTok, and a podcast presence that has given fans a more personal window into who he is beyond what aired on screen.
Danny has written for Substack — a piece on self-sabotage and why people cling to connections that no longer serve them, which he also read aloud as an audio episode on his podcast.
The piece is notable less for its content and more for what it says about him: Danny Spongberg is someone who thinks seriously about relationships, puts that thinking into words, and is not afraid to be publicly vulnerable about the messy parts.
The ‘Temptation Island’ Chapter
Danny appeared on “Temptation Island” Season 9 — the first season of the show on Netflix, premiering in March 2025 — as a tempter. His role was to spend time with the women whose relationships were being tested in the experiment, with the goal of seeing whether any of those connections could become real.
His most significant connection on the show was with Ashley Moore, one half of the season’s most dramatic couple. Ashley had come onto “Temptation Island” with her boyfriend Grant Larsen — a relationship already carrying the weight of Grant’s prior infidelity. Grant proceeded to pursue Natalie Cruz, also in the “Perfect Match” Season 4 cast, through multiple intimate encounters, including a trip to the temptation haven. Ashley watched the bonfire clips, declared herself single, and turned her attention to Danny.
They went to temptation haven together twice. At the final bonfire, Ashley called Grant a serial cheater. Grant and Ashley broke up. Ashley left the island with Danny.
Netflix’s Tudum bio for Danny summarizes it with characteristic understatement: “Following his one serious relationship with his high school sweetheart, Danny graduated to the role of tempter. On Temptation Island, he successfully stole another man’s girlfriend and even left the island with her, so he’s no stranger to partner swapping in paradise.”
He and Ashley have since broken up, which is how he ended up available for “Perfect Match.”
The Podcast Side
After “Temptation Island” aired, Danny leaned into building his platform through podcast appearances and content creation. His podcast episodes cover everything from returning to Omaha and remembering why he left, to reflecting on turning 24 and the lessons that year taught him about boundaries, healing, and figuring out who he actually is. One episode, by his own admission, was recorded after two martinis. That one he describes as chaotic but hopes listeners enjoy it.
The podcast side of Danny is the most useful thing to know about him going into “Perfect Match.” It shows someone who is genuinely reflective about his own patterns, which could is either make him very good at this show or very much in his own head about it.
The Pre-existing Connections
Danny walks into the “Perfect Match” villa with three people he already knows from “Temptation Island” Season 9: Yamen Sanders, Hashim Moore, and Natalie Cruz. He and Natalie have a particularly layered dynamic — she was the woman Grant pursued while Danny was building a connection with Grant’s girlfriend. They were on opposite sides of that season’s central scandal. Now they are in the same villa trying to find love.
Hashim confirmed in his own Netflix Tudum bio that he is looking forward to seeing his “Temptation Island brother Yamen and lil sis Natalie” in the villa. Whether that same warmth extends to Danny is unconfirmed. Either way, all four of them spent ten episodes together on the same island. The group dynamic going into “Perfect Match” is already fully formed.
Why Danny Spongberg Is One to Watch
Danny Spongberg went on “Temptation Island” to be a tempter and left in a relationship. That relationship ended. Now he is on “Perfect Match,” a show designed to find him something real and lasting.
He is thoughtful, self-aware, professionally trained in making people feel comfortable, and has already demonstrated that he can form genuine connections in high-pressure reality TV environments.
Whether any of that adds up to a “Perfect Match” finale win is the question.
“Perfect Match” Season 4 premieres May 13 on Netflix.
