“The Valley” star Brittany Cartwright shared updates on her four-year-old son Cruz Michael Cauchi’s progress on “The Valley After Show,” describing recent improvements as “big wins.” Cruz, who was diagnosed with autism last year, has been “saying more words here and there,” Brittany said.
Catch up with the diagnosis below in an interview with People.
She credits the family’s changed circumstances — not just therapy or other intervention — for the breakthrough. “I think that Cruz’s growth is, honestly… I hate to say this, but, like, seeing his mom happier and being, you know, out of a toxic situation,” she said, referring to her separation from Jax Taylor. “And maybe even seeing his dad happier whenever he’s with him. I don’t know.”
Also helping is the stability of being back home. Brittany and Cruz have moved back into the family house. “We’re grounded again,” she said. “And it’s his safe space and his happy place. I just think that he’s doing so much better because he’s not being moved around to all these different places.”
Jax’s New Setup
An After Show producer noted that Jax recently moved out of his townhouse. Brittany confirmed she has not been to his new place yet, but has her own system. “I make him send me videos before I let Cruz go over there,” she said. “And he does have, like, a nice room and a nice playroom for Cruz.”
She also shared a lighter moment: “I’ve caught him taking some toys out of my house to take over there. And I’m just like, ‘Just buy your own.’ But whatever. It’s for my son, so I don’t care. But he’s definitely trying when it comes to that.”
Co-Parenting Day-to-Day
How co-parenting with Jax is going overall? Brittany was measured. “It literally depends on the day,” she said. “Some days are good and just fine. Other days are just the same.”
The custody arrangement, finalized in March, gives Brittany primary physical custody with Jax getting Cruz every other weekend and Wednesday nights. The agreement includes a provision that neither parent can be under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or illegal drugs while Cruz is in their care — a clause that reflects the turbulence of the past two years plainly and without commentary.
The divorce itself has not been finalized. Brittany addressed the ongoing delays earlier this year, saying: “The hardest thing about the actual divorce is just that it keeps getting pushed back and pushed back and pushed back. I’ve got everything in now, so I am good to go — but if the other person doesn’t, then it just keeps getting delayed and delayed.”
“The Valley” Season 3 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo and streams on Peacock.
