Jimmy Sotos came into “Perfect Match” Season 4 as one of the most naturally charming people in the villa — the kind of person who makes everyone feel like the most interesting one in the room. By Episode 5, that quality had created a problem. Two women believed they were his person, and only one of them was right.
Here is the full story of why Jimmy chose Alison Ogden over Katherine LaPrell, and why Katherine had every reason to feel blindsided.
How Jimmy Sotos & Alison Ogden Started
Jimmy Sotos arrived in Episode 2 as one of three new singles brought in from the boardroom, and he and Alison connected almost immediately. She told him early on that she loved him for who he was. He matched with her at the end of Episode 2, and their dynamic settled into something easy and consistent from there.
What Jimmy said about Allison in the moments that mattered most tells the whole story.
When he pulled her before the Episode 5 matching ceremony, he told her she balanced him out in a way Katherine didn’t. He said building a home with her felt like they would both just be bricks — solid, complementary, structural. He told her she felt like home.
For someone who had spent his whole life defined by basketball and was finally figuring out who he was outside of it, that kind of grounding wasn’t a small thing.
Why Katherine LaPrell Was a Real Contender
Katherine LaPrell walked into the villa in Episode 4 already knowing Demari Davis from “Too Hot to Handle,” which gave her an immediate social footing. Her connection with Jimmy Sotos, though, formed completely on its own.
Their date was good. Jimmy held her while she floated in the water during a janzu session, told her she was beautiful and perfect, said he needed someone who could accept all versions of himself, and she told him normal was boring. He said her energy was contagious and that he knew he could enjoy life with her.
He came back from the date holding her hand. In his own confessional, he admitted he had not expected any of it and that it could shake things up with him and Alison. He said it was going to be hard.
Katherine read every one of those signals correctly. She told the group she wasn’t going to bother talking to anyone else — she wanted to match with Jimmy. She chose him for her date. He chose her for the activity. Everything pointed the same direction.
The Moment the Decision Was Made
When Jimmy pulled Alison before the ceremony, the language he used made it clear he had already worked through it. He said he was afraid she would be in her own head, but that he needed to trust his gut — and his gut said her. The nurturing side Alison brought, the way she complemented him, the way she balanced him — those were not things he found with Katherine, however real the fun and the chemistry had been.
Katherine was the exciting, unexpected connection. Alison was the one he kept coming back to.
What Katherine Got Wrong — And What She Got Right
Katherine’s exit confessional captured the devastation of someone who couldn’t piece together where it went sideways. She said Jimmy made her feel like she was going to be chosen, that it felt like being led on. Then she caught herself before saying something she would regret and landed on her exit line instead — that he may be sad to see her go, but he would have a better view watching her walk away.
She wasn’t wrong that the signs pointed her way. They genuinely did. What she couldn’t have seen from the outside is that Jimmy and Alison had been quietly, consistently building something for two full episodes before Katherine ever walked through the door. Katherine’s connection with Jimmy was real and fast and electric. Alison’s was slower and steadier and, in the end, deeper.
Jimmy chose Alison because she felt like home. Katherine felt like a great trip.
For someone finally figuring out where he wanted to settle, the choice was always going to come down to that.
