“Perfect Match” is back for Season 4, and Netflix wasted no time making it clear this is not the same game it used to be. By the end of the first episode, the show introduced a format change that completely shifts the power dynamic — and if the singles are not paying attention, it could cost them everything.
How the Boardroom Worked Before
In previous seasons of “Perfect Match,” the boardroom was one of the most straightforward — and powerful — mechanics in the game. The couple who won the compatibility challenge earned a trip to the boardroom, where they were presented with a pool of eligible singles waiting to enter the villa. That winning couple got to hand-select who came into the house, and they also got to decide who those new singles went on dates with.
That second part is what made it such a weapon. Controlling who dates who is controlling the entire social ecosystem of the villa. Winning couples could protect their own matches, destabilize their competition, or use a new single as a strategic grenade. The boardroom was not just a reward — it was a chessboard.
What Changed in Season 4
Season 4 flipped the script on that second half of the boardroom power. Demari Davis and Marissa George won the first compatibility challenge and headed to the boardroom, where they found four potential singles waiting: Bri Balram, Kayla Richart, Jimmy Sotos, and Dave Hand. They still got to choose which three came back to the villa — that part stayed the same.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Once Demari and Marissa returned to the house and introduced the new arrivals, the power stopped there. Instead of the winning couple assigning dates, the new singles get to decide for themselves who they want to spend time with.
That is a massive shift in power. The singles walking in are not beholden to anyone. They can go straight for someone else’s match with zero interference from the couple who brought them in.
They get to spend the night and choose for themselves who they go on a date with the following day.
Why It Changes the Game
Under the old rules, a winning couple could bring in a new single and immediately neutralize them by pairing them off with someone safe. Not anymore. Season 4’s twist means every new single who walks through those doors is a live grenade with a free hand.
The first episode made that crystal clear. Demari and Marissa thought strategically — they brought in Dave Hand hoping he would match with Mackenzie Bellows, Kayla Richart thinking she might pair well with Yamen Sanders, and Jimmy Sotos as a wildcard for Alison Ogden or Ally Lewber. Reasonable enough on paper. But the second those three walked into the villa, Demari and Marissa lost all control of what happened next.
Kayla immediately set her sights on Demari. Dave went straight for Ally Lewber. Jimmy Sotos caught Allison’s eye before the night was over. Not one of those connections landed where the winning couple planned.
The boardroom is still a prize worth fighting for. Choosing who enters the house is still significant power. But Season 4 made it clear that bringing someone in and controlling what they do are two very different things — and anyone who confuses the two is already playing the wrong game.
“Perfect Match” Season 4 is now streaming episodes 1-5 on Netflix.
