He’s from Alaska, he moved to a cabin in Simi Valley, and he is somehow the most stable person on the show.
Sterling Retzlaff is 24 years old and the only cast member on “Calabasas Confidential” who didn’t grow up in Calabasas — or even in California. He is a graduate of East River High School in Anchorage, Alaska, which puts his entire frame of reference for the world at a significant remove from the gated hills and the Erewhon smoothies and the group chat drama he walked into.
He moved to Calabasas to pursue a career as a full-time model and quickly struck up a friendship with Dylan Wolf and Hercy Miller, who brought him into the group. His read on himself going into the season is self-aware: “I’m quite literally the outsider. The friendship group actually argue about the most insane things.”
What Does Sterling Retzlaff Do?
Sterling holds a degree in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University — a practical foundation for someone also building a career in modeling and content creation. His dad works in the oil industry back in Alaska, which is about as far from the Calabasas aesthetic as it gets, and Sterling wears that distance lightly. He posts across social media as a model and lifestyle creator, and Dylan describes him on the show as the most real person he has met in Calabasas — someone who camps, who is adventurous, who he can actually relate to.
Sterling Retzlaff’s Girlfriend: Brynn Rumfallo
Sterling is one of two cast members who arrives at the summer with a relationship already intact — and the only one where it stays that way. He has been dating Brynn Rumfallo for over two years. Brynn is a fellow model and content creator who former viewers may recognize from her years on “Dance Moms.” She lives in Orange County and travels often for work, which means the relationship has always operated across some distance.
Brynn doesn’t appear as a main cast member but does make her first appearance with the full friend group in the Season 1 finale. The show treats her introduction to the group as a quiet milestone — Sterling spent eight episodes being asked about her, and the finale finally lets the two of them exist in the same frame as everyone else.
Sterling Retlaff’s Drama on ‘Calabasas Confidential’
Sterling’s arc is defined less by what he causes and more by what he observes. He is Dylan’s sounding board at the ranch and at the driving range. He is present for the pre-party getting ready, the group beach days, the conversations where the men process the chaos the women are living in from a slightly safer angle. He is, as Dylan puts it, the most grounded person in the group — and in a cast where the ground keeps shifting, that is both an asset and occasionally a limitation.
His one brush with the drama’s blast radius comes in Episode 5 when Dylan tells Suede that Preston spread the news about their bad date — and Preston, furious at having his name used, tells the cameras he is heading to Miami for a week to get distance. Sterling, who was at the photo shoot when Preston got the news, watches it play out with the quiet resignation of someone who has been standing next to a fire all summer without getting burned and is starting to understand why.
Where Is Sterling Retzlaff Now?
Still with Brynn, still building. The two recently celebrated two years together and became dog parents to a pup named Rudy. Sterling has since moved to a cabin in Simi Valley — roughly 50 miles from Brynn’s place at the beach — but frames it as a feature rather than a problem. “She lives at the beach, and I live in the mountains,” he tells Tudum. “We can both focus on our work, and then we both get time together. It’s been good.”
What Does Sterling Retlaff Bring to ‘Calabasas Confidential’?
Sterling is the show’s control group — the one data point that exists outside the variables of Calabasas upbringings, Calabasas High School history, and the specific social ecosystem that shaped everyone else in the room. He came from Alaska, built his own friendships, kept his relationship intact through a summer of chaos, and moved to a cabin in the mountains afterward. In a show full of people trying to figure out who they are outside of where they grew up, Sterling is the only one who never had to ask the question. He already knew.
